My research is anchored in the transdisciplinary field of Surveillance Studies, specifically within the recent ‘cultural turn’ in surveillance studies, which examines contemporary surveillance through cultural practices and imaginaries. As an overall theme, my research is concerned with how systems and practices of information-gathering and surveillance shape lived experience, which increasingly takes place in an environment characterized by the presence of technologies of information gathering, often empowered by artificial intelligence and designed to gather, share, sort, and classify data and bodies.
My current research project focuses on digital everyday life and the new affordances of control provided by domestic smart technologies and AI-enabled surveillance systems.
I teach in the ALM's master program and the bachelor program in Digital Cultures.
