I am a doctoral student in ethnology. My doctoral project explores everyday practices of “going for a walk” and walking as a recreational practice. I am interested in the meanings, values, beliefs and imaginaries that get attached to walking as exercise, as social activity, as engagement with nature, etc. For whom, where, and when do meanings and values get attached, or not? How can going for a walk be understood as a ritual, and how do contemporary walking rituals compare to their historical antecedents in a Swedish context? If, as media and discursive material loudly proclaims, recreational walking has the power to change people for the better, what is the composition of this change-making process? What are the overlaps and tensions between how walking is reified as an idea, ideal, symbol, semiotic object, and how walking happens?

I am also the editorial assistant at Game Studies Journal and a teaching assistant in the MACA (Master of Applied Cultural Analysis) programme.
