Environmental Humanities Seminar: “Experiences from Dark Mountain and At Work in the Ruins”

3 December 2024 13:00 to 15:00 Seminar

Dougald Hine, Riksteatern and Centre for Environment and Development Studies, Uppsala University

Experiences from Dark Mountain and At Work in the Ruins

In 2009, Dougald Hine and Paul Kingsnorth published Uncivilisation: The Dark Mountain Manifesto. In the introduction to At Work in the Ruins (2023), Dougald revisits the closing lines of the manifesto:
“The end of the world as we know it is not the end of the world, full stop. Together we will find the hope beyond hope, the paths that lead to the unknown world that lies ahead.”

In this seminar, Dougald will reflect on the journey of the Dark Mountain Project, his experiences thinking and writing from a Swedish context about the questions which the manifesto framed, and the reception of At Work in the Ruins.
